Fit, Focused + Fabulous
When I decided to start By Ross I knew that my love hate relationship with fitness was an area I wanted to explore. Lately I have found every reason not to be consistent with my workouts, I hope some of you can relate. Why do I let life get in the way? I know that working out is exactly what I need to do to not only have more energy, but to look and feel amazing and healthy. How do I get going again?
That’s when I turned to the Fit, Focused + Fabulous Shayla Nyree, a close friend of mine whose also a busy career woman. Shayla works full time, is active in her church and community, yet she always makes the time for her fitness routine. She has developed such a passion for fitness that she even became a certified personal trainer. I have known her for quite some time now and she almost NEVER misses a work out.
She’s always been an encourager and enjoys lifting the spirits of those around her. Now personal training has become an outlet for her to do so. She finds so much joy in helping someone achieve a goal, break through a barrier or take a push-up of faith.
For her, fitness is truly a lifestyle, so I thought who better to guide us than Shayla? Ladies and gentleman…
Meet Shayla Nyree
Life is a blessing, so I think it’s important to take care of our bodies and live the best life we can. Ensuring this means that our health must become a priority. For me, looking good in my favorite midi dress is just a plus. I’m a firm believer that your perspective and thoughts dictate the life you experience. With this in mind, I make sure I am a champion of positivity.
I try to keep my workouts fun and fresh. I go to the gym 4-5 times a week. Alternating the focus between upper body on some days, and lower on others. Cardio gets a special day all to itself. And I never forget to use my off days for recovery and active rest.
Your body is built in the kitchen!
When it comes to eating, your calorie intake depends on your fitness goals and proper nutrition is a major factor in achieving those goals.
My 9 eating tips in short are:
• Eat lots of fruits and veggies
• Choose complex carbs
• High-quality, lean protein is the way to go
• Good fats are essential (monounsaturated, polyunsaturated, omega-3’s)
• Avoid processed and packaged foods
• Limit the amount of added sugar in your diet
• Say yes to healthy snacks in between meals
• Control your portions and eat frequently
• Drink water, drink water, drink water!
Life does the most and we can always find an excuse, so just getting to the gym always seems to be the hardest part. Want to know how to ease in? Just get there first! If you don’t have a trainer or workout partner, plan your workouts in advance so you aren’t aimlessly wandering around the gym. Real results require preparation and consistency. The more you workout, the better you’ll get and the better you’ll feel. You got this!
One more thing to remember:
Unforeseen things may happen and you might miss a day, a week or even a month at the gym, but don’t let it discourage you. Dust those sneaks off, put on some cute workout gear and get back to it! Your fitness journey is a marathon, not a sprint. How you finish is most important! If you need assistance, I’m eager to help you attack your fitness goals.
